Treatment training for advocates: a manual

i-Base has also developed a training manual Treatment training for advocates with eight 2-hour modules that include questions and evaluation. Subjects start from the basics including CD4, viral load and other monitoring tests, combination therapy and side effects, to brief overviews of the main opportunistic infections. There is a module on pregnancy and another module on IV drug users and treatment.

Adapting i-Base materials

i-Base materials have been adapted by other activist groups.

UK Community Advisory Board

The UK Community Advisory Board (UK CAB) is a network for community treatment workers across the UK that was set up by i-Base in May 2002.

Since 2006 a Steering Group of eight UK-CAB members plans and programmes meetings and co-ordinates development of the project. i-Base continues to provide administrative support.

Three main aspects of the UK-CAB are:

World CAB

World CAB is a forum for treatment advocates to meet with pharmaceutical companies over pricing and access issues. Members attending meetings represent advocates from the International Treatment Preparedness network, which includes over 400 advocates from over 100 countries.

Reports from World CAB meetings are available as a PDF.

Treatment training resources online

i-Base maintains a directory of training resources – PDF, Word and PowerPoint files to download and links to treatment literacy resources online.

These resources have been provided by members of the International Treatment Preparedness Coalition (ITPC).

This is a communal space for organisations who do not have websites to post training material so that it can be easily accessed by other individuals and organisations.

Training material is organised by language, and links to material that is available online on other sites is also included.

Start a support group or organise a treatment workshop

i-Base can offer speakers on any aspect of HIV treatment to any support groups in the UK. For example this could be a simple ‘question and answer’ workshop or a talk to cover latest research from a recent HIV conference. We can sometimes find specialist speakers if we can’t cover a topic ourselves. We are very happy to help programme a series of workshops that covers different aspects of treatment.

If you would like to arrange a speaker or workshop please contact the i-Base office.

Recent i-Base treatment workshops have been organised with the following groups.

Meetings and reports

We have held a series of meetings on the clinical management of HIV infection
