HIV, pregnancy & women's health – introduction

This is the third edition of the i-Base pregnancy guide. This guide includes recommendations based on the pregnancy guidelines issued by the British HIV Association (BHIVA) that were last updated in 2005. Another update of the BHIVA pregnancy guidelines is expected later in 2007.

Changes to this edition

Changes in this edition of our guide include:

• A discussion on the risk of HIV transmission from an HIV-postive man to an HIV-negative women, when using limited conception attempts, if the man has an undetectable viral load and sperm-washing is not available.
• A new warning against the use of the drug ddI.
• A new section has been added on TB coinfection.
• More extensive consideration of the possibility of prematurity.
