This training resource uses 8 work units.

• Sections 1 and 2 cover the basics of how the immune system works and how HIV interacts with this. It tells you about CD4 counts, viral load, the natural history of HIV infection and the effect of treatment on HIV.
• Sections 3 and 4 cover the basics of anti-HIV treatment and side effects.
• Section 5 covers the basics of the main opportunistic infections (illnesses that happen when your immune system is damaged by HIV).
• Section 6 covers HIV and pregnancy.
• Section 7 cover HIV treatment and injecting drug users.
• Section 8 covers basics science ideas - graphs, averages and units of measurement.
